The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has issued a statement calling for a resolution to the ongoing CETAG & CENTSAG strike actions before colleges of education reopen for the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year.

The statement, released on January 12, 2025, addresses the adjusted reopening dates set by the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) in response to the strike actions by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG).

According to the statement, the association noted that the strike actions, which began on January 2nd, 2025 (CETAG) and January 13th, 2025 (CENTSAG), are disrupting the academic calendar.

TTAG also referenced the negative impact of the previous CETAG strike which lasted for over two months.

The association stated that while it recognizes PRINCOF’s adjustment of the reopening date, it “appeals that the Colleges should only resume when there are no and or pending strike activities to enable us prevent time wastage and resources.”

They have asked for the government and other stakeholders to resolve the issue before the new adjusted reopening date of January 27, 2025.

In solidarity with their teachers, TTAG strongly advised all teacher trainees, including Level 400 trainees, to stay home until the government addresses the demands of CETAG and CENTSAG, ensuring that academic work can continue seamlessly without any future strikes.

The association has urged its members to remain calm and united with its leadership, as they navigate these challenging times.

“We shall continue to keep you updated on this subject and any other subsequent developments,” the statement concluded.
