
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has emerged as the triumphant victor of the 2024 Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games, showcasing exceptional athletic prowess on their home turf.
The event held from 3rd– 18th January, 2025 was under the theme “Repositioning University sports for National Development.”
UCC not only hosted the competition but also secured the coveted top spot, claiming a remarkable seven trophies across various sports disciplines.
The host university’s impressive performance included victories in both Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Women’s Hockey, Women’s Netball, Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, and Men’s Tennis.
This dominant showing solidifies their position as a powerhouse in university sports within Ghana.

The University of Ghana (UG) followed closely behind, securing second place with a respectable five trophies.
Their wins included impressive performances in Athletics (Men and Women), Men’s Beach Volleyball, and Women’s Goalball, along with Men’s Hockey.
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) also put on a strong showing, taking home six trophies.
Their wins comprised Women’s Beach Volleyball, Men’s Goalball, Men’s and Women’s Handball, and Men’s and Women’s Badminton, and Women’s Table Tennis.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) won three trophies, including Men’s Football, Men’s Table Tennis, and Women’s Tennis.
The University for Development Studies (UDS) clinched one trophy with a win in Women’s Football.
This year’s competition saw participation from 15 out of 16 public universities in Ghana.
