The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has urged the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) to reopen colleges only when there are no ongoing or pending strike activities by CETAG and CENTSAG.
This response from TTAG follows PRINCOF’s adjustment of the reopening date for colleges from January 13 to January 27, 2025, due to the industrial actions currently affecting colleges by their teaching and non-teaching staff.
According to the statement released by TTAG on January 12, 2025, the association emphasized that the strikes initiated by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) on January 2, 2025, and the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) on January 13, 2025, will disrupt the academic calendar if colleges resume without meeting the teachers’ demands.
“Although the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has adjusted the reopening dates for the first semester due to unforeseen circumstances, we appeal that the colleges should only resume when there are no ongoing or pending strike activities to prevent wastage of time and resources,” TTAG stated.

TTAG also referenced the negative impact of the previous CETAG strike, which lasted for over two months.
The association acknowledged PRINCOF’s adjustment of the reopening date but reiterated, “We appeal that the colleges should only resume when there are no ongoing or pending strike activities to prevent time wastage and resources.”
TTAG has urged the government and other stakeholders to resolve the issue before the new reopening date of January 27, 2025.
In solidarity with their teachers, TTAG has strongly advised all teacher trainees, including Level 400 trainees, to stay home until the government addresses the demands of CETAG and CENTSAG.
“We shall continue to keep you updated on this subject and any other subsequent developments,” the statement concluded.
