How to Apply for a Student Loan, Eligibility & Requirements

The Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has outlined the items that one needs to have in order to access a student loan.

Application Requirements

The student loan application checklist includes:

• Ghana Card

• Student ID/Admission Letter

• Personal Email Address

Before an applicant applies for the loan, he/she must be a Ghanaian and have been offered admission to study an accredited tertiary program in Ghana.

Application Process

The application process is free and does not require any processing fee.

Applications can be done online via https://application.sltf.gov.gh/

However, it should be noted that trainees in the various colleges (Colleges of Education and nursing training colleges) are not eligible to apply for a loan because they are already benefiting from the scheme (monthly allowances).

The Students Loan Trust Fund is a public institution established under the Trustee Incorporation Act 1962, Act 106 to provide financial resources for the benefit of students and to promote and facilitate the national ideals as enshrined in Articles 25 and 38 of the 1992 Constitution.

It replaced the SSNIT Students Loan Scheme. The Students Loan Trust Fund Act 2011, Act 820 has been passed by Parliament.
