The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has distanced itself from statements made by the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, regarding the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
WAEC has stated that it cannot give assurance that the results will be released on or before December 29, 2024, as previously announced by the minister.
The council explained that they are still awaiting the necessary funds to fix broken down scanners, conclude scanning of objective test answer cards, and process the results.
WAEC has dismissed media reports that suggested the results would be released by the specified date.

The Education Minister had ealier stated that the results would be released by December 29, citing the government’s support in alleviating some of WAEC’s financial challenges.
However, WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, clarified that no additional funds have been received beyond the GHc25 million issued on December 18.
Kapi emphasized that the council is still waiting for the release of an additional GHc35 million from the Ministry of Education to cover necessary expenses.
This includes payments for supervisors, invigilators, script checkers, and suppliers of examination materials.

Overall, WAEC has made it clear that they cannot confirm the release of the WASSCE results by December 29, as previously indicated.
The council is reliant on receiving the remaining funds to carry out the necessary tasks to process the results.
