The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has issued a press statement refuting widespread rumors of an increase in teacher trainee allowances.
The association clarified that while they submitted a proposal for an allowance increase to the Ministry of Education on July 4, 2024, they have yet to receive any official confirmation of an increment.
Reports circulating suggest an increase from GHS 400.00 to GHS 800.00, stemming from a communique from the association’s 28th Annual General Assembly at Tamale College of Education.
TTAG strongly denies this, stating that no such information has been formally communicated.

More urgently, TTAG highlighted that the government currently owes teacher trainees across all 46 public colleges of education four months of allowance arrears for the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, which concluded on October 11, 2024.
The association is appealing directly to the government, through the Ministry of Education, to address both the outstanding arrears and their proposal for an allowance increase.
