It has been revealed by the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG),  that trainees in colleges of education affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and the University for Development Studies (UDS) are encountering a lot of challenges.

The first issue raised by TTAG in a communique they issued on Novermber 3, 2023 was the absence of a student result portal for trainees in these affiliated Universities.

According to TTAG, the lack of an accessible platform prevents Trainees from obtaining essential academic information such as their exam results and other important updates related to their studies.

As a result, Trainees are unable to officially monitor their academic progress, which is crucial to their educational journey.

Furthermore, TTAG drew attention to the delays in releasing examination results over the past two years.

Specific examples include UEW Level 100 students who are still awaiting their first-year first-semester results.

Level 200 students waiting for second-year first-semester results.

Level 300 students waiting for second-year second-semester and third-year first-semester results.

Level 400 students who have not received their third-year second-semester results.

These delays have caused distress and uncertainty among the student body in the affected Colleges of Education.

The association also addressed concerns regarding the graduation of final-year student teachers from the 2019 cohort.

According to TTAG, The absence of the student result portal and delays in result releases have created confusion and anxiety among Level 400 student teachers, who are on track to complete their studies by November 11, 2023.

“The uncertainty surrounding their eligibility for graduation is deeply unsettling for these aspiring educators” TTAG stated

While acknowledging the dedication of the universities to enhancing student well-being, TTAG emphasized the importance of addressing these critical issues affecting the Trainees.

The association respectfully calls upon the Council of both UEW and UDS to promptly and effectively address these pressing concerns for the benefit of the students.

The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana remains hopeful that the universities will take swift action to resolve these challenges, thereby ensuring a conducive and supportive environment for the education and professional development of future educators.
