Our news desk has been flooded with questions from trainees inquiring about the potential cancellation of their government allowances.
Many are seeking clarification on the issue, as they were expecting the payment of their arrears for the 2022/2023 academic year from the Students Loan Trust Fund before Christmas.

We would like to clarify that the government has not issued any official letter indicating the cancellation of trainees’ allowances.
Therefore, trainees are strongly urged to refute any claims suggesting otherwise.
Moreover, information gathered from the recent budget read in parliament reveals that the government has already allocated funds for the payment of trainees’ allowances in 2024, effectively debunking the allegations of cancellation.

In addition, as per the new “in-in-in-out” system implemented, final-year students will spend their entire year off-campus, resulting in them not being provided meals by their colleges.
Consequently, the full-year feeding grants component will be returned to them, ensuring that they receive their full allowance of GH¢400.00 per month during the academic year.

While trainees are urged to be patient for the release of their stipends, it is essential to note that some individuals, like Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, are advocating for the cancellation of the trainees’ allowances.
They believe that redirecting these funds towards improving college infrastructure would allow for more admissions.
Specifically, Asare argues that the government has imposed admission quotas on colleges of education due to difficulties in paying the allowances.

However, this is just one perspective, and the government has not officially announced any plans to cancel trainees’ allowances.
