The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has raised doubts about the recent results of the West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Mahama alleges that some invigilators were lenient during the exams, allowing teachers to assist students with answers.
He posited that such actions have serious consequences for the country’s educational system in the future.

His comment comes after the Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, announced that this year’s WASSCE results are the best the country has seen since 2015.
“In many places, they let the children cheat. You go to places and the teachers are conniving with the students to cheat. The effect will be seen later,” he stated
He again highlighted the issue of certification, stating;
“You certify these children saying they are of this standard either the BECE or SSCE, and that child will use that certificate, go abroad to a school and they will find out that your qualification is not up to the standard you say it is.”
The Former President, who is currently on the “Building Ghana Tour,” has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged malpractice during the WASSCE.

He believes that such incidents undermine the credibility of the examination and urgent actions need to be taken to ensure the integrity of the educational system.
Mahama also revealed that the NDC remains dedicated to improving the educational sector and has proposed various policies, including government investment in housing schemes for teachers when they win 2024 elections.
Additionally, he promised to review the Free SHS policy within the first hundred days in office.
