Allowances: Education Minister Assures Trainees of Prompt Payment of Arrears

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has assured teacher trainees across the 46 public colleges of education that their allowances will be paid soon.

In a meeting with the leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) on Tuesday, Dr. Adutwum confirmed that initial allowances will be disbursed within the coming days.

While the minister did not provide a specific timeline for the payment, he highlighted ongoing efforts to clear the arrears owed to trainees.

The TTAG leadership also presented a proposal to the Minister advocating for a substantial increase in the allowance, citing its inadequacy in meeting the trainees’ needs.

The proposal suggests a raise to GH₵800.00 per trainee.

Dr. Adutwum assured the TTAG that he will thoroughly consider their proposal and engage in discussions with relevant stakeholders.

Currently, the government is indebted to trainees for three months’ worth of allowances.

However, it is hoped that these arrears will be cleared in the coming days as promised by the Minister.

The leadership of TTAG has also expressed their unwavering dedication to the welfare of trainees, vowing to tirelessly pursue the fulfillment of the promises made by the Minister of Education.
