President John Dramani Mahama has proposed the establishment of a School Sports Authority.

According to him, this new body aims to oversee structured inter-school competitions and facilitate the identification of talented athletes to pave the way for future sporting champions.

“My government will establish a School Sports Authority. This body will oversee structured inter-school competitions and talent identification essential for nurturing future sporting champions,” President Mahama announced.

He emphasized the importance of grassroots sports in nurturing talent and building a robust sports ecosystem, citing that over 60% of Ghana’s elite athletes have emerged from school sports programs.

The President’s proposal aligns with global best practices in sports development, specifically the UNICEF Child Rights Convention, which highlights the significance of participation in school sports.

The School Sports Authority will ensure that Ghana meets these standards by promoting inclusivity and providing equitable access to sports programs.

The initiative is expected to address the current gap in sports infrastructure and create pathways for young athletes to excel.

With proper implementation, Ghana can anticipate the development of talented individuals and the production of future sporting heroes, supported by a structured and transparent system.
