In a groundbreaking statement during his inaugural State of the Nation Address (SONA), President John Dramani Mahama has declared that the construction of any new school in Ghana will be contingent upon the provision of accommodation for teachers.

This bold initiative is part of his broader plan to enhance the welfare of teachers and ensure quality education across the nation.

The President unveiled the ‘Teacher Dabr3’ initiative, designed to provide essential support and incentives for teachers, particularly those willing to serve in underserved rural areas.

This program aims to address the longstanding issue of teacher retention in these regions, where educational resources are often scarce.

To further incentivize teachers, President Mahama announced a 20% allowance for teachers who commit to working in rural communities.

He emphasized that this allowance is a token of appreciation for the sacrifices made by teachers and a crucial step towards improving educational outcomes for children in less accessible areas.

The President stated that District Assemblies will play a vital role in the scheme, working to ensure that teachers are present and actively teaching in rural schools.

This collaborative approach is designed to improve teacher retention and attract new teachers to these areas.
