National Road Safety Authority Collaborates with Komenda College to Educate Final-Year Students on Road Safety

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), in collaboration with the Management of Komenda College of Education and the Road Safety Awareness Club of the College, has held an immersive sensitization program for the final-year students.

The aim of this program was to highlight the crucial role of teachers in promoting road safety and to instill a sense of responsibility among these future educators to prioritize road safety in their own lives and in their teaching practices.

Scheduled on the 31st of October, 2023, the event took place at the Robert Mensah Complex Hall of the College

Mr. Kwame Tenkorang Osei, Mrs. Diana Asamaniwaa, and Mr. Ebenezer Forson, representatives from the Central Regional Office, dedicated their time to educating the students on this important topic.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Osei emphasized the significant role that teachers play in ensuring that children receive early education on road usage.

“By imparting this knowledge at a young age, children will grow up to be responsible road users,” he opined

Mr. Osei further informed the students that road safety awareness will soon become an integral part of the school curriculum.

He urged the trainee teachers to incorporate it into their lessons and ensure that their students understand and practice safe road behaviors when they get to the field.

The speaker again emphasized the vital role of teachers in shaping children’s habits and behaviours regarding road safety.

He stressed that the habits children develop during their school years have a lifelong impact on their personality. Therefore, it is essential to educate them about road safety from an early age.

Mr. Osei added that road safety awareness should permeate every aspect of a teacher’s instruction since children may struggle to overlook or comprehend traffic situations.

To stress this point, he highlighted the fact that children have less experience with traffic and need proper education to navigate roads safely.

The final-year students were encouraged to teach children about road signs, pedestrian crossings, and other elements related to road safety when they go out.

At the conclusion of the informative session, the students were given the opportunity to ask questions and seek further clarification regarding the topics discussed.

The speakers took turns answering these questions, providing additional insight through real-life examples.

The patroness for the Road Safety and Awareness Club, Madam Victoria Aba Mensah, expressed her gratitude to the National Road Safety Authority personnel for their impactful and practical education provided to the trainee teachers.

She stated that road safety is everyone’s responsibility and plays a vital role in creating a safer and accident-free country.

She also emphasized the importance of creating a safe and conducive environment in schools, including implementing road safety measures such as speed limits, designated pedestrian crossings, and awareness campaigns.

She stressed that, by creating a culture of road safety within educational institutions, students are more likely to internalize these practices and carry them forward into their adult lives.
