The Chief Executive Officer of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Joe Anokye, has announced that MTN Ghana’s Data Zone bundle will soon be reactivated after being temporarily suspended due to a review of the bundle’s price in line with Significant Market Power (SMP) directives.

The suspension was announced in a statement on April 5th, 2023, and the telecom operator explained that it was working closely with the regulator to ensure alignment with a revised Data Zone bundle that meets the regulatory requirements.

The Data Zone bundle solution enables customers to enjoy discounted rates for a one-day validity bundle with an easy subscription process through the Short Code *135#.

The suspension was the result of the ongoing review of the bundle offer industry-wide, to ensure regulatory compliance in terms of market pricing, and to avoid being the lowest priced offer.

The revised data zone bundle has reportedly met regulatory requirements, according to NCA’s CEO Joe Anokye. During a press briefing in Accra, Mr. Anokye stated that “MTN has since submitted a revised data zone bundle which has been approved by the Authority, and they expect the product to soon be available.
