With a heavy heart, I write this article to all Final year students in Senior High Schools.
I implore you to take your academics and examinations seriously as the future of your education depends largely on your performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
As a blogger, I have seen many SHS graduates cry and lament deeply because their grades were not good enough to qualify them for their desired tertiary programs.
Some of them even confess that they did not know how serious the system was, and they regret not studying harder during their time in senior high school.
I write this article to bring the reality on the ground to your attention. It is essential that you understand the gravity of the WASSCE and the importance of passing it with credible grades.
Nowadays, most tertiary institutions in the country only accept least grade of C6 (A1-C6). Those with grades below that range might not qualify for the programs they wish to pursue. Some institutions may accept grades like D7 and beyond, but the programs offered might not be desirable.
Therefore, I urge you to avoid being complacent and thinking that all you need is to bear the tag of being a “SHS Graduate.” Passing the WASSCE with good grades will open doors to a bright future and great opportunities for you. Do not underestimate the value of good grades.
Some students may consider writing remedial exams if they do not pass on their first attempt. However, it is important to consider the possibility of passing those remedial exams. Why not pass now when you have the chance?
Furthermore, some students may assume that they will not receive support to further their education, so they settle for mediocre grades. I want to emphasize that the future is unpredictable. It is better to pass now and seek help for further education than to have a helper in the future and still have to run for remedials.
As a personal testimony, I spent five years at home after completing SHS because I lacked support to further my education.
Although I was offered admission by the University of Education, UEW in 2016, I could not afford the admission fees.
I eventually enrolled in a college of education after those ‘few years’ in the house because my results were Still good. If my grades had been poor, I would not have had that opportunity. This is the reason why I want you to give your best and leave the future to God!
I hope you take this message seriously and understand the value of good grades in the WASSCE. Do not wait until it is too late to realize the importance of taking your academics and examinations seriously. Remember, “Had I known is always at last.
