The Mortuary workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has announced plans to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike starting on Wednesday, 29th November, 2023.

This decision was made at a general meeting held by the members of Association of Ghanaafter all attempts to resolve their grievances proved unsuccessful.

In a statement released on 20th November, the workers cited Section 159 of Act 651(2003) as the basis for their decision to go on strike. They stated that all mortuary workers in Ghana will lay down their tools until their grievances are addressed.

The workers emphasized that their decision to strike is in exercise of their rights as stipulated in the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana. They expressed their hope that the strike would lead to a resolution of the issues they are facing.

The decision to strike comes with a quote from Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, emphasizing the workers’ desire for a fair share of the good things in life and the opportunity to live in the fullest sense.

“No scheme of life can be right or complete which dooms those who toil hardest to get the meanest share of the good things of life and to have no chance of living in the fullest sense”Dr.W.E.B.Du Bois (The Crisis.January,1919)
