The management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has reacted swiftly to a news article circulating on social media, claiming that the institution’s operations have been banned in Nigeria.
In a press release issued by UCC, the allegations have been vehemently denied and attributed to a case of mistaken identity.
Setting the record straight, UCC clarified several key points in their official statement:
Firstly, the university clarified that it has no operational outlets or campuses in Nigeria.
Moreover, UCC has not granted any franchise or authorization to any institution in Nigeria to deliver its programs.
Therefore, the claim of a ban on UCC operations in Nigeria is completely baseless.

Secondly, the university emphasized that all international students, including Nigerians, who desire to study at UCC, are required to apply directly to the university for consideration.
Interestingly, UCC highlighted the hasty and misguided approach adopted by the media outlet when reporting the information.
According to the management, without crosschecking of facts, the media outlet hastily associated the false claims with the wrong institution, confusing the solid brand of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) with another institution named Cape Coast University (CCU).
Moreover, UCC management asserted its commitment to upholding its strong reputation as a leading academic institution with global recognition.
“the university has no intention of engaging in any activities that would tarnish its hard-won reputation, having been ranked as the top university in Ghana and West Africa, as well as the seventh in Africa, according to the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings”, the statement noted.

The management firmly assured its stakeholders and the general public that the publication should be disregarded as nothing more than a malicious attempt to damage the reputation of the university.
In light of these clarifications, UCC urged all stakeholders and the general public to remain vigilant and verify the authenticity of information directly with the university to avoid being misled by false reports.
