In a disappointing turn of event ealier, teacher trainees in the 46 colleges of education received a reduced allowance for the 2023 academic year in July.
The amount deposited onto their cards BY SLTF was decreased from GH¢200.00 to GH¢149.00, with the difference being allocated to supplement the feeding grants provided to the colleges.
This decision was made by the government after the Principals of the Colleges of Education made it known that the rising prices of goods and services had made it difficult to adequately feed the trainees.

As a result, the trainees’ stipends were reduced to help cover the cost of meals.
However, recent reports suggest that despite the deduction from their allowances, trainees in the colleges of education are still being served the same old meals, with no improvement in the quality or variety of food.
This has left many trainees feeling frustrated and questioning the motives behind the allowance reduction.
They believe that PRINCOF, the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education, is taking advantage of them and are determined not to remain silent.
Some have set a deadline of the end of August, stating that if no action is taken or changes are seen, they will take further measures to address the issue.
Additionally, there are trainees who argue that if their stipends are being reduced, the previous menus should be reinstated to demonstrate that their deductions are being put to good use.

They believe that if they are not receiving better meals despite the reduction in allowances, then the purpose of the deduction is questionable.
We wil urge trainees to remain calm and patient. It is hoped that PRINCOF will address these issues and work towards a resolution very soon.
