In a united front, the three major teacher unions in Ghana – GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT-GH – have issued a demand to the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to reverse and refund a tax imposed on the complimentary digital support allowance provided to teachers.

The unions, through a letter dated December 12, 2024, emphasized the importance of the Collective Agreement (CA) in promoting cooperation, trust, and respect between the GES and the teachers.

They expressed disappointment that the GES unilaterally deducted tax from the digital support allowance, going against the agreement and promises previously made.

“It is therefore unfortunate that the GES has unilaterally deducted the tax from the above-mentioned allowance contrary to the agreement and promise that it would not be deducted.”

“We hereby demand that the GES should as matter of urgency reverse the said tax deduction and refunded same to teachers without fail.”
