The visually impaired students of Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education in Wa have raised a serious complaint against the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), for failing to release their end-of-semester examination results from 2021 to 2024.

In a statement released on 12th December 2024, the affected students called on the general public to join their fight, as they have tried all efforts without any positive feedback from the University.

“We are calling on all well-meaning Ghanaians, particularly those in positions of authority, to intervene on our behalf and compel the University of Education, Winneba, to release our results,” stated the affected students.

According to the students, despite multiple appeals, including official letters through their college, the UEW has not responded to their requests.

This delay, according to them, has severely affected their ability to apply for scholarships and has caused undue stress and financial hardship.

“We have been denied the opportunity to apply for scholarships, as we are unable to provide our semester results,” the students noted.

The students emphasized that their sighted colleagues receive their results promptly, highlighting a discriminatory practice that leaves them feeling marginalized within the academic community.

“We are not asking for special treatment, but rather for equal access to the resources and opportunities available to our sighted colleagues,” they affirmed.

The students have given UEW an ultimatum to release their results by the end of this month, failing which they plan to seek redress in the courts.

They are also seeking legal assistance to help them achieve justice.

“We hope that our story will serve as a wake-up call to the University of Education, Winneba, and to all educational institutions in Ghana, to take the necessary steps to ensure that students with disabilities are treated with dignity and respect,” the students declared.
