The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has released GH¢25 million to cover allowances for 47,000 teacher trainees across all 46 public colleges of education in the country.
This payment covers two months of arrears, with the SLTF working to clear all outstanding payments.
“This payment represents two months of arrears, and we are working to pay an additional two months soon to clear all arrears,” stated Nuhu Bayorbo Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of the Fund, in an interview.

According to him, each teacher trainee receives GH¢400 per month, with GH¢200 allocated to their respective institutions for feeding grants and the remaining GH¢200 disburse directly to the trainees.
However, while trainees received payments on October 2nd, 2024, each trainee only received GH¢310 (GH¢155 X 2) as the two-month arrears for the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year directly.
Final year trainees are also yet to receive their portion of the disbursed allowance.

Mr. Nuhu Bayorbo Mahama clarified that final year students were included in the recent payment but a technical issue prevented them from receiving their stipends.
He assured them that they will receive their payments soon, confirming that they are part of the released GH¢25 million.
