Shama High School is a co-educational senior high school at Shama in the Shama District of the Western Region of Ghana.

The school which exists to create a congenial atmosphere for the pursuit of sound academic and socio-cultural values also trains students to become useful to themselves and society as a whole.

There exists a remarkable and active Old Students Association (SOSA) in the school.

The old students have been visiting the school annually to interact with the students, inspire them as role models and have fun games with them.

On Friday, August 12, 2022, The University of Ghana Chapter of the SHASS Old Students Association(SOSA) had a trip to the school to interact with the final-year students.

The interaction which was hosted at the school’s library had in attendance Mr. Kwesi Mensah(Sir. Okoto), Mr. Paul Ampaw, Mr. Dadzie, Sir Anthony, and the Assistant Headmaster for Academics of the school.

The Guest Speaker, Dr. Christopher Adenyo, Lecturer at the University of Ghana and a past student of the school educated the students on the need to aim higher by furthering their education after completion.

Dr. Adenyo also utilized the chance to elaborate to students about the University of Ghana, course selection, and the cut-off points.

He, therefore, urged them to learn hard to meet the required grade to pursue the courses they prefer at the University.

Justice Cobbinah Jnr, the first president of the SOSA UG chapter pin-pointed some public misconceptions about Legon and tertiary institutions in general.

Rightfully debunking and addressing such misconceptions with concrete evidence and unbiased juxtapositions, students were well convinced of the need for one to acquire tertiary education.

Making it extra convincing to the students, a recent past student of the school, Felix Missah, who had 6As and 2Bs shared his experience with them.

“If I did it, you too can do it!”, Felix asserted.

Felix is currently a level 100 student at the University of Ghana, Legon.

In her submission, Esther Yatel, the moderator for the event, posits that Shama Senior High School is a model of excellence in second-cycle education, hence the students should allow themselves to train and tuition offered by the school.

To climax the event, Beatrice Andoh, a prolific Student of UG, used her experience to make the students realize the difference between Main Campus and City Campus.

The Association also met the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ)team and exhorted them to work hard to uplift the image of the school in the competition.
