The Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has issued a stern warning of an impending industrial action if the government fails to pay the tier-2 pension contributions owed to its members.
In an official statement released by the Association’s National President, Isaac Donkoh, it was emphasized that urgent action must be taken by the government to settle all outstanding debts and contributions.

The statement also called for the appropriate interest from February to December 2023 to be paid, in accordance with the provisions of the Pension’s Act, Act 766 section 64, which stipulates a three percent penalty rate.
Should the government disregard these demands, the Union has declared its intention to withdraw its services across all university campuses, effective from Monday, January 15th, 2024.
Furthermore, the Association’s statement included an additional request for the immediate withdrawal of letters issued by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on November 7 and 20, 2023, respectively.
According to them, these letters unlawfully eliminate overtime allowances for senior staff members, which the association sees as an infringement on their rights.

he Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UOG) urged the government to address these concerns promptly to avoid a disruption in university operations and maintain a harmonious working environment.
It is yet to be seen how the government will respond to the Association’s demands, but the possibility of a disruption in university operations looms if a resolution is not reached promptly.
