The National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the three striking teacher unions to appear before them on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

This action comes after a petition was submitted by the FWSC regarding the ongoing strike by the teacher unions.

The teacher unions in question include the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT, Ghana), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).

These unions have declared an indefinite nationwide strike, citing a delay in the negotiation of their conditions of service and the freeze of salaries by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

The NLC, in accordance with the Labour Act (2003), Act 651, has called for a hearing on the issues raised by the dispute.

In a statement signed by its Chairperson, Justice Kwabena Asuman-Adu, the NLC cited non-compliance with Section 159 of Act 651 as the reason for their order.

The unions have been advised to adhere to this order.

It is expected that the hearing before the NLC will provide an opportunity for dialogue and resolution between the FWSC and the striking teacher unions.
