The Management of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced the reversal of its decision to implement a new fee for the supplementary examination.

The previous fee structure required students to pay an amount based on the number of credit hours for the paper, multiplied by GH¢50.00.

This decision sparked an uproar among students and the general public, prompting the management to swiftly backtrack.

In a letter dated 28th October, 2023, the KNUST management stated that each re-sit paper would now attract a fee of Fifty Ghana Cedis (GHC 50.00), regardless of the number of credit hours.

The letter stated, “Further to ours of even reference dated 3 and 25th October, 2023, in respect to the above, you are kindly requested to inform concerned students that paragraph four (4) of the General Notice in respect of the 2022/2023 Supplementary Examinations should read ‘Each re-sit paper attracts a fee of Fifty Ghana Cedis (GHC 50.00)’ and not ‘GH¢50 X No. of credit hours of re-sit paper’ as previously advertised. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.”

The decision has been welcomed by students and stakeholders, who had criticized the previous fee structure as being unfair and financially burdensome.
