The Ghana Education Service (GES) is preparing to integrate Chinese language education into the national curriculum, according to Emmanuel Essuaman, the Central Regional Director of Education.

This initiative, according to him, aims to promote cross-cultural communication and strengthen ties between Ghana and China.

Speaking at the opening of a regional training facility for local educators in West African nations, Mr. Essuaman highlighted the growing importance of Chinese language education in the Central Region.

He acknowledged the role of the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (CIUCC) in enhancing the region’s educational offerings.

“The Central Regional Directorate of Education affirms its commitment to working with CIUCC in selecting pilot schools, rolling out, and fully implementing the program,” Mr. Essuaman stated.

He emphasized that all children in the Central Region would soon have access to Chinese language instruction, enabling them to communicate with people worldwide.

Mr. Essuaman expressed hope that the new training center would play a crucial role in equipping Ghanaian teachers with the expertise and knowledge needed to teach Chinese effectively.

He stated, “Chinese language education has offered students in the Central Region not only the opportunity to learn a second language but also to pursue degrees in Chinese, access scholarships in China, participate in global competitions such as the Chinese Bridge, and secure employment in Chinese enterprises.”

He also emphasized that Chinese is one of the global languages that students can choose to study as part of their electives under the new secondary education curriculum.
