The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a statement regarding the unfortunate passing of Miss Stacy Okyere, a first-year student at Aburi Girls’ Senior High School.

The GES management expressed its heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, acknowledging the tragic event that occurred on February 4, 2024, following a brief illness.

In this challenging time, the GES stated they stand with the bereaved family and will continue offering their thoughts and prayers for solace.

The Director-General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah, with a delegation on Monday, February 12th, 2024 visited the school and the family’s residence to offer support and condolences.

During their visit, the delegation inspected the school’s fifteen-bed infirmary and engaged with the school’s nursing staff.

As part of their efforts to provide support, GES has also dispatched a team of nine counsellors to reinforce the existing Guidance and Counseling Department, ensuring that the students and staff receive the necessary psychosocial assistance.

Additionally, the GES has initiated an internal investigation into the incident and is collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies to conduct an independent inquiry.
