The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched a pioneering one-stop portal aimed at revolutionizing staff data management within the service.
Known as the Ghana Education Service Management Information System (GESMIS), this new platform is designed to comprehensively collect, manage, and store data for both teaching and non-teaching staff.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic, GES Director-General Dr. Eric Nkansah explained that the portal will also encompass information on learners from kindergarten to senior high schools, enhancing the management of pre-tertiary education.
Key Features of GESMIS:
- Comprehensive Data Storage: The portal includes data on institutions, learners, staff, classroom infrastructure, learning progress, and teacher performance.
- Salary Support and Verification: Features a salary support ticketing system and a QR code for verifying official GES letters.
- Student Information: Provides easy access to academic results and progress reports for students and parents.
- Unique Identification: Each staff member is assigned a personal identification number for secure access.

Dr. Nkansah emphasized the significance of maintaining accurate and up-to-date data for informed decision-making.
The locally developed GESMIS will support recruitment, transfers, and promotions, providing detailed career information for staff.
The portal, according to the director, eliminates the need for third-party platforms, leading to substantial cost savings.
A recent pilot for staff promotions demonstrated the system’s efficiency, avoiding the high costs associated with third-party services.
The platform also simplifies staff transfer processes, previously hindered by extensive travel and paperwork.

Dr. Nkansah also highlighted the real-time analytics capability of GESMIS, enabling comprehensive oversight from national to school levels.
This system ensures immediate data updates, resolving past issues with management unit changes.
