The release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School results has been delayed until early January 2025, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced.
The delay is attributed to outstanding government payments and the need for urgent repairs to essential equipment.
In a recent interview, John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Relations, cited unresolved financial obligations as the primary cause.
The government reportedly owes WAEC approximately GH₵118 million in arrears for conducting the examination, compounded by a further GH₵25 million needed to repair malfunctioning scanners crucial for processing objective test results.
These outstanding payments prevent WAEC from completing the necessary processing to release the results.

Mr. Kapi confirmed that the council’s offices are closing for the Christmas holiday on December 20th, 2024, and staff will be recalled once the funding is secured.
He stressed that no specific release date can be set until the financial issues are resolved.
WAEC has cautioned students against falling victim to scams promising altered results for a fee and urged them to disregard unofficial release dates circulating on social media.
Students are advised to check their results only on the official WAEC website: https://ghana.waecdirect.org when they are available.
