GES caution against unauthorized BECE registration fee, threatens Sanctions

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a warning against unauthorized BECE registration fees being imposed by some Heads of Basic schools.

In a press release dated 12th Feb, 2025, the GES emphasized that these fees are unauthorized and urged all Heads to immediately cease this practice.

According to the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, “Management wishes to emphasize that these fees are unauthorized, and all Heads are advised to cease this practice immediately.”

Regional Directors have been instructed to alert District Directors to monitor the situation and caution all Heads of Basic schools.

According to GES, any Head found to have collected unauthorized fees must refund the monies promptly or face sanctions.

It was also emphasized that late registration of candidates will not be permitted, and all eligible candidates must be registered within the stipulated registration period set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The GES also urged the general public to take note of these warnings and report any incidents of unauthorized fees being charged for BECE registration..
