The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is set to be reintroduced into the management of education in Ghana, according to an announcement made by Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.
This decision marks a shift from the previous administration’s policy, which limited the influence of PTAs in the school management system following the introduction of the Free Senior High School policy in 2019 and the subsequent suspension of PTA levies.
Speaking at a public forum on February 17, 2025, Minister Iddrisu emphasized the critical role PTAs play in fostering community involvement in schools.
“I am particularly happy to announce that the PTA will be brought back to improve the educational system in Ghana,” he stated.

The previous limitations on PTA activities were partly a result of concerns regarding the misuse of the PTA system by some school heads.
However, Minister Iddrisu believes that under the leadership of President Mahama, the PTA can function effectively and transparently to support schools.
He further emphasized that PTAs will play a crucial role in fostering collaboration between parents and teachers.
“This partnership,” he noted, “aims to improve learning outcomes in schools and ensure that the education system produces quality human capital for the country’s future.”
