The Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) has issued a notice of strike, effective January 13, 2025, if their demands are not met.

This decision was reached during an emergency National Council meeting on January 2, 2025, where members discussed the delayed migration of staff onto the Single Spine Salary Grade Structure of the Public Universities by the government.

In a statement issued on January 2, 2025, the association disclosed that the migration process has been unduly delayed, and it appears to be a ploy by the government to frustrate the process.

“The migration process has been unduly delayed, and it appears to be a deliberate tactic by the government to obstruct the process,” CENTSAG stated.

CENTSAG’s statement further explains that a staff qualification and placement audit is required for the migration.

The association has therefore given the government until Friday, January 10, 2025, to take “concrete steps” to ensure the immediate implementation of this audit and provide evidence to the National Executives.

“If by Friday, January 10, 2025, no concrete steps are taken by the government to ensure the immediate implementation of the staff qualification and placement audit, we will have no option but to embark on an indefinite industrial action,” CENTSAG noted.

The National Council of CENTSAG also revealed that it has served notice of this impending strike to all stakeholders, urging the government to act swiftly to avoid disruptions to the new academic calendar slated to commence on January 13, 2025.

In a related development, the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has declared an indefinite strike, effective January 2, 2025.

This action also follows an emergency National Council meeting held on December 30, 2024, during which CETAG members expressed their frustration over the employer’s failure to address grievances and violations of signed agreements.

CETAG has made it clear that under no circumstance will its members return to the colleges to undertake any official duties including teaching and supervision of project work and macro-teaching until the last pesewa is paid into their accounts.
