The Basic Education Certificate Examination is to be canceled, and University Entrance to Replace Wassce.

This was disclosed by the Ministry of Education in their new educational reforms outlined.

The Ministry has outlined that the BECE and WASSCE organized by the West Africa Examination Council will no longer be used to enroll students in Senior High and Universities.

In a proposition to revamp education in Ghana, the reforms will see them cancel the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) written by final year Junior High School students for access to Senior High School.

The BECE will be replaced with a placement examination to enroll students into SHS 1.

At the Senior High School, students will run only core subjects/programs for the first year.

From SHS 2, students will then choose their career paths between vocational education, technical training, business, arts, and science where they will be awarded a diploma on completion.
