The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has disclosed that four teachers have been apprehended for engaging in examination malpractices in Bekwai, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The revelation comes as the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) commenced on Monday, July 8, in various centers across the country.
Despite numerous warnings from stakeholders, including President Akufo-Addo, urging candidates to refrain from cheating, the examination has thus far been conducted smoothly and peacefully.

She stated, “With regard to the conduct itself, I think we’ve had good conduct this morning and again this afternoon. I must say that we have just had a few reports. We have had a few people picked up, some teachers picked up in Obuasi-Bekwai, trying to help the candidate. About three or four of them, but as I said, we just had a report, so the details of it will be coming and then we’ll put it out.”
The WAEC has emphasized the need for integrity and honesty during exams, urging teachers, parents, and students to uphold these values.
The authorities have also assured the public that appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty of assisting in examination malpractices.
