The Ghana Education Service, along with the Ministry of Education, NaCCA, and WAEC, have introduced significant changes to the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with candidates now required to write three new subjects in addition to the existing ones.
Previously, BECE candidates were assessed on subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Religious and Moral Education, ICT, French, Ghanaian Language, and Basic Design Technology.
However, the recent revision has incorporated three new subjects into the examination format.

Beginning with the 2024 BECE, candidates will be required to write the following additional subjects:
- Arabic
- Creative Arts and Design
- Career Technology
This decision follows the official release of the list of approved subjects for the 2024 BECE by the GES.

The statement emphasized the mandatory subjects for all candidates:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- General Science
- Social Studies
- Religious and Moral Education
- Career Technology
- Creative Arts and Design
Ghanaian languages have been categorized under elective subjects, while French, Arabic, and Computing remain optional.

To ensure compliance with the updated curriculum, GES has instructed all Regional Directors to closely monitor the registration process and ensure that candidates adhere to the approved subjects.
This directive was communicated via a letter dated March 1, 2023, and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education.
