
The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi, has issued a directive for the arrest of the Northern Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) for alleged financial misconduct.
The Director is accused of failing to deposit internally generated funds totaling One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc160,000) into the consolidated fund.

During the PAC deliberations on the 2022 Auditor General’s Report, the Management of the Northern Regional Sports Authority was cited for spending without adhering to the Public Financial Management Regulation of 2019.
The Chairman of the PAC, Hon. Avedzi, expressed disappointment in the Director’s actions and ordered his immediate arrest.

The call for arrest came during a public hearing where officials from the National Sports Authority, including the Minister of Sports Hon. Mustapha Yusuf, Director General, Accountant, and other officials, were present. Hon. Avedzi emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating,
“The PAC is directing the Regional Director and the Accountant should be picked up immediately by the police.”
He further criticized the Director’s absence at the committee meeting, saying,
“You were invited to appear before the committee and you refused, knowing very well that you had squandered over Ghc 160,000 and you thought you could go scot-free.”
