The senior high school (SHS) Science students are set to experience significant changes in their curriculum starting from the 2024/2025 academic year due to the implementation of the Common core curriculum.
The Director-General of the National Council and Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Professor Edward Appiah, has revealed that Science students will no longer be required to study Core and Elective Mathematics as separate examinable subjects, Instead, they will be mandated to take Additional Mathematics.

Moreover, Science students will no longer study Integrated Science as they are already focusing on Pure Science.
This adjustment is part of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to implement standard-based and common core curricula for pre-tertiary schools.
The new curricula aim to move learners away from rote learning towards acquiring critical learning skills.

The current final-year Junior High School (JHS) students will be the first to undergo the common core Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Additionally, a trial test of the common core curriculum for SHS students has been completed, with full implementation expected in the 2024/2025 academic year.

The revised curriculum will introduce General Science and Modern Mathematics for students pursuing General Arts, Business, Home Economics, and Visual Arts.
The assessment approach will shift towards continuous evaluation through classroom exercises and project work, reducing the emphasis on end-of-year examinations.
