The Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, has issued a stern warning to employees, stating that his department is preparing to remove the names of individuals who have not linked their Ghana cards to the payroll system.

At the annual conference of the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department in Kumasi, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem emphasized the importance of implementing innovative methods to manage public finances effectively and ensure a reliable payroll system.

During the annual conference of the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department held in Kumasi, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem stressed the importance of implementing innovative methods in managing public finances on a daily basis, in order to establish a trustworthy and credible payroll system.

“For the past two years, we have been engaging with our employees regarding the necessity of linking their National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers to the payroll database. Now, we are ready to put these measures into effect. If you do not possess a valid Ghana card, your salary payments will soon be discontinued,” he warned.

Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem reassured workers that even if their Ghana card is missing, their identification number would still be present in the database, allowing for verification and cross-checking. Should any doubts arise, individuals may be called in for physical validation.

Highlighting the need for a collaborative effort to combat corruption, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, urged the involvement of all stakeholders in the fight against corruption, emphasizing that reporting suspicious activities is essential.

“”I have raised concerns about the Corruption Perception Index remaining stagnant for four years. To overcome this, we must continue implementing interventions that will improve the perception of corruption. It is not solely the responsibility of those in authority; everyone must play a role. If you witness something suspicious, speak up. We must all work together and not solely rely on institutions established to combat corruption,” she stated.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, praised the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department for their significant advancements.
