The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has received high praise from EduRank, an independent metric-based rating organization, as it took the 2nd position as the best communication and public relations university in Ghana, in their recently published 2023 ranking.
UEW was topped only by the University of Ghana, Legon, which claims the top spot. The results also show that UEW is ranked 20th in Africa and 717th among universities around the globe.
In addition, the overall ranking of universities in Ghana placed UEW in a commendable 4th position among 67 universities. It also garnered the 54th spot out of 1,104 universities ranked in Africa, and an honorable 2,822nd place from 14,131 universities worldwide, which is a remarkable achievement for the institution. UEW has been acknowledged for its performance in “TOP 50% across 32 research topics.”
EduRank employed three criteria to determine the ranking: research output, non-academic reputation, and the impact of alumni. In the research output, EduRank’s index identified 10,814 academic publications and 107,510 citations associated with UEW.This emphasizes the superiority of research work conducted within the university, especially in the domain of communication and public relations.
In the ranking process, EduRank employs a proprietary database with an index of 44,909,300 scientific publications and 1,237,541,960 citations to rank universities across 246 research topics. The overall ranking includes non-academic prominence and alumni popularity indicators, further emphasizing the influence and impact of each institution.
The accomplishment of UEW underscores the quality and excellence in curricular for communication and public relations, and reinforces its position as one of Ghana’s premier academic institutions. While UEW has risen significantly over the years by maintaining academic standards, the institution also sets sights on cultivating the leadership and expertise that prepare students to excel practically and contribute meaningfully to the global community.
