The Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a scathing attack on President John Mahama, accusing his administration of deceiving nursing and teacher trainees regarding their allowances.

In a recent released press statement, the National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha condemned the alleged U-turn on campaign promises to maintain these crucial stipends, labeling it a “scam” on students.

“Just one month into office, President John Mahama’s government is showing signs of being a scam on the good people of Ghana and especially students,” the statement read, expressing disappointment at the swiftness of the perceived betrayal.

The NPP Youth Wing claims that the President’s track record suggested a potential shift in policy, but were surprised by the speed at which it allegedly materialized.

The government maintains its position that replacing allowances with student loans offers a more equitable financial support system for all students.

However, the NPP Youth Wing vehemently rejects this justification, arguing that teacher and nursing training colleges are fundamentally different from universities and require specific financial assistance for their trainees.

The statement also condemned social commentator Kevin Taylor for what they described as mocking comments directed at the trainees, demanding an apology from President Mahama himself.

In a strong call to action, the NPP Youth Wing urged students to resist the alleged policy change, proclaiming, “Say no to political scam! Say no to political bullying!”

The group has pledged to stand in solidarity with the trainees and fight to ensure they receive the promised allowances.
