The National Communication Authority (NCA) has announced its collaboration with telecom operators to create a shortcode that will allow the public to easily verify whether their numbers have been connected to their Ghana cards.

The shortcode is intended for individual subscribers to check if their numbers are linked to their Ghana cards.

According to a recent Facebook post by the NCA, the shortcode can be accessed on any regular phone and the verification process will reveal the number of SIMs associated with the Ghana Card. Once the shortcode is operational by the end of April 2023, there will be no need for subscribers to physically visit their telecom operators to verify the same.

The SIM Card Re-Registration Exercise began in October 2021, with the aim of building a SIM database with integrity, helping to reduce fraudulent activities and securing SIM Card transactions.

The Ghana Card is the only identification document that can be used for individual SIM Card registrations according to Regulation of the National Identity Register.

This new shortcode will enable the public to easily verify their SIM status, bringing convenience and reducing the need for physical visits to telecom operators.

The NCA and operators will continue their active collaboration to ensure that the shortcode is ready for public use by the end of April 2023 after testing and approval.
