In response to the nationwide data service outage caused by multiple undersea cable cuts, telecommunications giant MTN has announced that it has secured additional network capacity from its international partners.
The move is expected to result in improved data connectivity for MTN customers.
Following the incident, the National Communications Authority (NCA) issued a statement shedding light on the root cause of the problem.
The disruptions, originating from cable cuts in Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, and Portugal, led to a significant degradation of data services across Ghana.
The NCA reassured the public that Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) were tirelessly working to restore full services and diligently keeping affected customers informed through various communication channels.
The outage had far-reaching implications, halting various activities and underscoring the country’s heavy reliance on stable internet connectivity.
The NCA reported a loss of approximately 1,596.6 Gbps of data capacity due to the multiple cable cuts, highlighting the scale of the impact.
While efforts are ongoing to restore network connectivity to its optimal level, MTN has pledged to explore all possible options to alleviate the data difficulties faced by its clients.
