Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day Declared Statutory Public Holiday

The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has announced that Thursday, 21st September 2023, will be observed as a Statutory Public Holiday throughout the country.

The day marks the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, a significant day in Ghana’s history.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday, 13th September, 2023, which informed the general public of the holiday declaration.

The statement urged all citizens to observe the day as a mark of respect for the country’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah.

Kwame Nkrumah was a prominent figure in Ghana’s struggle for independence and is widely regarded as the father of the nation.

He led the country to independence from British colonial rule on 6th March 1957 and served as its first President until he was overthrown in a coup d’état in 1966.

Since his death in 1972, Ghana has observed the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day annually to honor his legacy and contributions to the country’s development.

The Minister for the Interior’s announcement means that all businesses and government offices will be closed on Thursday, 21st September 2023, and citizens are encouraged to participate in activities commemorating the day.
