Komenda College of Educatio Holds Three-Day Orientation Service for Freshers

Getting used to a new place can be pretty daunting, but that is what orientation service is all about; getting to know your surroundings and meeting friends and staff members. 

This makes students feel comfortable enough to hit the ground running when the semester and academic work begin.

It also gives students a great chance to familiarize themselves with their schools.

As a custom, The Management of Komenda College of Education has held a three-day intensive orientation service for the first-year students who reported to the college on 30th January 2023.

It was a compulsory Programme held from Wednesday, February 1 to Friday, February 3, 2023.

During the aforementioned dates, arrangements were made for Freshers to meet and be addressed by such key officers as the Principal of the College, Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson(PhD), The Vice Principal, Mr Theophilus Kweku Bassaw, the Quality Assurance Officer, Mr Mark Eghan, The Chaplain, Reverend Wilson Kotey Kotei, Dean of Academic Affairs, Mr Daniel Nkum, Dean of Students Affairs, Madam Sophia Efua Cobbinah,  The College PRO, Mr Godwin Anani, STS Coordinator, Mr Bans Bandoh Frempong, Acting Accounting Officer, Miss Susanna Blankson, Safe Space and Focal Person, Mr Benjamin Taylor, Lecturers and other stakeholders of the College.

Activities

Learners were taken through;

  • Effective Time Management
  • Talk on Academic work and Structure of the B.Ed Programme
  • Financial Matters in the College
  • History of the College
  • Talk on Halls of Residence
  • Issues on Gender
  • Supported Teaching in Schools
  • Student Allowance
  • Quality Assurance: The Role of the Students
  • Sports and Recreational Activities
  • Clubs and Societies
  • Students Elections
  • The use of the Library in Teacher Education
  • College Ode and Anthem
  •  Lecturers, examinations and continuous assessment
  • Chaplaincy, Discipline and Religious Activities on Campus
  • Special and Inclusive Education
  • Guidance and Counselling Services in the College
  • Fire and Safety on Campus
  • Sanitation on Campus

They were allowed to ask questions and seek clarifications during each of the above-mentioned sessions throughout the programme.

Campus Tour

On the final day of the service, the freshers led by the Dean and Deputy Dean of Students’ Affairs, Madam Sophia Efua Cobbinah, and Mr. Uriel Amuah respectively toured the campus; Places like the College Library, Halls of residence, Adminstration Block, the Cave, and other vital locations in the college.

Some of the freshers who spoke with Coleman publications expressed their joy in knowing particularly the history of the college and the phases it has gone through to date.

Others were also amazed by the level of love, care and hospitality shown to them by the staff and their seniors since they reported.
