The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike, effective Thursday, February 20, 2025, in protest of the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
The decision, made during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on February 11th, stems from CLOGSAG’s concerns regarding the increasing trend of appointing politically exposed persons into key Civil Service and Local Government positions.
The NEC specifically highlighted the appointment of Mr. Botchway as a point of contention.
In a press release issued on February 13th, CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo stated, “The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare a nationwide strike.”

“Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway took office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The Association has no option but to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025,” the release confirmed.
CLOGSAG is urging all its members across the country to abstain from work starting on the specified date until further notice.
The strike action is poised to disrupt services provided by civil and local government agencies nationwide.

The government has yet to respond to CLOGSAG’s announcement.
