The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has publicly assured nurses and midwives in Ghana that those recruited after December 7, 2024, will not face dismissal.

The Minister’s statement aims to quell concerns within the healthcare sector about potential job losses.

Mr. Akandoh emphasized that neither the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, nor the Catholic Health Association of Ghana has terminated the employment of any health worker.

“We are committed to building and sustaining the health workforce,” he stated.

The Minister delivered this reassurance at the opening ceremony of the inaugural African Nurses and Midwives Confederation conference, hosted by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in Accra.

He also pledged to support healthcare workers with their logistical needs to improve healthcare delivery.

The five-day conference, running until February 24, 2025, brings together representatives from 17 African countries under the theme: “Nurses and Midwives, Fostering Health for all in Africa.”

Mrs. Ampofo underscored the significant contribution of nurses and midwives to national economic development and urged nations to invest in their development.
