The situation at Savannah College of Education has allegedly escalated as students continue their protest against the college’s private status.
The students, primarily first-year students, are demanding refunds of their fees after discovering that the college remains private, contrary to initial claims that it would be absorbed by the government and become a public institution.
Earlier, the students took drastic measures by locking up lecture halls and boycotting all academic activities.
They allege that they were misled by the college’s management, who they claim misrepresented the institution’s status.

This belief was reinforced by the college’s listing on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) website. However, upon admission, they discovered that the college remains private.
Attempts by some stakeholders to calm the students were unsuccessful, as the students insisted on being addressed by the principal, Dr. Musah Okamop.
According to reports, when the principal arrived to address them earlier today, the situation took a turn for the worse as some students allegedly pelted him with stones, demanding refunds of their fees.

According to some eyewitnesses who spoke with Coleman Publications, the Daboya police, who accompanied the principal, were unable to control the situation and called for reinforcement from the Damango police to help restore peace at the college.
Currently, the students are demanding refunds of their fees or for the college to be absorbed by the government.
Some students, fearing the tense atmosphere on campus, have returned to their homes, while others remain determined to pursue their agenda.
