The 2024 EN Analytics Top 100 Senior High School Rankings for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) provide an insightful analysis of the best-performing schools in Ghana.

This ranking, recognized nationally and globally, serves as a crucial reference for students, parents, and educational institutions.

It highlights the schools that have consistently excelled in science and mathematics, reflecting their commitment to academic excellence and competitive performance.

Understanding the 2024 Rankings

The 2024 edition of the rankings is based on data from 229 senior high schools across Ghana’s 16 regions.

The methodology considers:

  • A school’s final position in the NSMQ at the national level.
  • The category of the school, as classified by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
  • A school’s cumulative performance over the past 12 years.

This year’s update ensures that any school qualifying for the national competition is automatically included in the ranking, enhancing inclusivity and accuracy.

Regional Disparities

The rankings also reveal disparities in infrastructure and facilities across regions.

Schools in newly created regions—Ahafo, North East, Savannah, and Western North—are yet to make it into the top 100, indicating a need for improved science and math education facilities in these areas.

Ranking Methodology

Competition Points System

  • Schools earn points based on the final stage they reach in the NSMQ.
  • Points assigned are independent of actual contest scores.
  • Schools failing to qualify for the national competition receive zero points.

Category Points

  • Non-Category A schools receive additional points if they advance beyond the One-Eighth stage.
  • Category B, C, and F schools must reach at least the Quarter-Finals to earn extra points, compensating for their limited science infrastructure.

Tiebreaker Rules

  • If two schools have the same points, the one with more NSMQ championships ranks higher.
  • If neither school has won before, they are jointly ranked.
