Update on CETAG’s Strike

Leadership sends you warm greetings and updates you on the strike accordingly:

1. We had put up a spirited argument in our last meeting to ask Government to agree to at least a July 1, 2022 effective date for the CoS, having expressed win-win spirit without any form of entrenchment.
2. The Minister had proposed to take the all year round work compensation up with the Finance Ministry within two weeks if our strike action is suspended to pave way for processes that will lead to payment to commence. His superiors will only cooperate with him when the strike is suspended.
3. The Minister was to be personally involved in getting the FWSC to reach agreement with us on the flagged items among the Generic allowances in the CoS, as part of his oversight responsibilities within two weeks after the strike has been suspended.
4. He was also to get the GTEC to give the Staff Audit exercise specific end date within two weeks after we have suspended our strike seeing that it will automatically extend in equal measures what our counterparts in other tertiary institutions enjoy.
5. He was to reduce all these into a binding legal document (Agreement) of a roadmap to be signed and witnessed by relevant Ministries and bodies including CETAG.
6. As we were waiting for the signed legal roadmap from the Minister to bring to Council, we rather received this letter of appeal yesterday. (The letter is attached).
7. Kindly organize Local meetings to deliberate on the circumstance by close of tomorrow to enable us have an online Council meeting over the weekend to make a determination on the Minister’s appeal.
