The University of Ghana has announced that applications for its graduate and Ph.D. programmes are now open.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications online before the deadline of June 30, 2025.
Here are the key details and requirements for prospective applicants.
Entrance Examinations and Interviews
Applicants may be required to take an entrance examination or participate in an interview at the respective department, institute, school, or center.
This evaluation process ensures that candidates meet the necessary academic standards.

MPhil and Ph.D. Programmes
MA/MSc to MPhil:
Students initially admitted into the MA/MSc programmes who achieve a B+ average or better in their first-semester examinations may be upgraded to the MPhil program based on the recommendation of the Head of Department and the Graduate Studies Committee.
Ph.D. Programmes:
Masters Degree: Applicants with a relevant Masters degree from the University of Ghana or any recognized/accredited university are eligible to apply directly for the Ph.D. programme.
With First Degree: High-achieving first degree holders must complete Level 600 courses as part of their admission process before progressing to the four-year Ph.D. program, starting with Level 700 courses in the first year.
All Ph.D. programs are fee-paying with durations as follows:
- Full-Time: Four (4) years
- Part-Time: Six (6) years

Application Process for Ghanaian Applicants
E-vouchers for GHS220.00 can be obtained from several banks, including Zenith Bank, Universal Merchant Bank, and more.
Applicants should complete the online application form using https://apply.ug.edu.gh/admissions/graduate/login
Application Process for International Applicants
International applicants and Ghanaians applying from abroad should complete the online application form and pay a non-refundable fee of US$110.00.
Payments can be made via bank transfer or secure online payment platforms.
Payments for the following categories should be made as indicated below:
- Account Name: University of Ghana Fees Collection (FOREX) – For payments in Ghana
- Account Name: University of Ghana Fees Collection (FOREIGN) – For payments outside Ghana
- Account No.: 0161094409780403; Swift Code: ECOCGHAC
The third payment option is- The Secure online payment platform using Visa Card and MasterCard. The link is https://www.ug.edu.gh/ugpay
The pay-in-slips together with applicants’ certificates and transcripts should be scanned and attached to the application form before submission.
The transcript should be scanned into one PDF document and attached to the application.
Note that no application will be processed without proof- of – payment of the fees.
